Powerfully and expressively modeled, large figure of a fisherman dressed in a nor'wester, trudging home with a huge fluke, or halibut, flung over his shoulder and hanging down his back. Heavy red stoneware. Covered in a variegated dark caramel high glaze with hints of green and gold, and a profusion of micro crystals.

A tour de force by the extremely talented Icelandic sculptor Gudmundur Einarsson, for Listvinahus pottery.

BACKGROUND: Listvinahus pottery was founded in 1927 and is the more important of two Icelandic potteries (the other being "GLIT" est .by Ragnar Kjarlansson - used "Ragnar" signature - in 1958).


Listvinahus' major ceramists were Lydia Einarsson (decoration), Einar Gudmundsson, Sigurjon Einarsson, and Gudmundar Einarsson (sculpture). Einarsson is also known to have worked in stained glass and watercolor.
