Modernist Zodiac Vase
8" high x 4-3/4" wide x 2" deep

Background: Flygsfors was formed in Sweden in 1888, producing all types of functional glass. However, they are best known for their groundbreaking design work in Modernist glass of the 1950's-60's. Key designers were Paul Kedelv (1949-1956) and Wiktor Berndt (1955-1974). Flygsfors was acquired by Orrefors in the 1970's and closed down in 1979.

Excellent condition!

$ 325. G-303-Z

Exceptionally clean and spare design by Scandinavian artist, Wiktor (Victor) Berndt, executed in his signature technique.

Transparent gray glass underlay, cased in clear. Rectangular cross section, bearing on its face raised design elements representing a star, a goat or ram (Capricorn?) and a symbol which could be read as "V8," or a conjoined VB, or ???. The decor is molded into the glass as raised figures, and, later, lightly ground to produce a raised- etched effect.

Detail showing depth of raised-and-etched design.

Etched into base:
Flygsfors (date unclear, but looks like 61)
