Paperweight
vase in flattened onion or "lollipop" form -- of
heavy, clear glass, internally decorated with swirls of
white, pink, purple and goldstone. Design conceived by
Robert Hamon; executed by his brother, Donald
Hamon. $
185. G-298a-H BACKGROUND:
Hamon
glass is part of the proud American glass heritage
of West Virginia. It was founded in 1932 by O.B.
Hamon, in Scott Depot, WV. O.B. had five children:
Richard, Robert, Leo, Donald and Dorothy, several
of whom were destined for the glass business. The
piece shown above was conceived by Robert; what he
called his "lollipop" design. However, as shown by
the signature, it was executed by Don Hamon,
possibly while he was with Robert; possibly while
at Tamarack. I
am much indebted for this information to glass
collector Edna Eaton who has been most generous
with her vast knowledge of the Hamon Glass history
which I have summarized above.

Uncommon and striking example of the product of Hamon Glass
Studio, Scott Depot, West Virginia.
When O.B. could no longer run the business, Robert
took it over. Meanwhile, the youngest brother, Don,
went to work for Kaiser Aluminum.
For a period in the mid-sixties, Robert worked for
Kanawha Glass, after which he opened his own art
glass studio. He also consulted for Pilgrim
Glass.
When Don retired from Kaiser, he joined Robert,
making glass of Robert's designs. Subsequently, Don
worked at Tamarack and, later, at Gibson
Glass.
