Color Woodcut Wonderful woodcut of a shy Veery - a thrush similar to a Swainson's Thrush - foraging for insects and berries on the ground. Published in an edition of 200 by the Woodcut Society. Pencil signed and dated. Bearing the artist's monogram in the plate.
BACKGROUND: Havens was a member of the Prairie Print Makers, the Kansas based group founded in 1920 by Birger Sandzen . In addition to Havens and Sandzen, among its active members were many of the other foremost printmakers of mid-century America, including John Taylor Arms, Gustave Baumann, Peter Hurd, Clare Leighton, Maynard Dixon and John Steuart Curry. in a non-archival mat which has left typical discoloring around the edge of the mat cutout.
