Photo of The Temple of Love.

Le Temple de l'Amour (built 1777-78), is on a small, artificial island, adjacent to the Petite Trianon, the neo-classical mini-chateau at Versailles, built by Louis XV to house his favorite mistress, Madame du Barry. The Temple, a shallow cupola supported by twelve columns, provides the setting for Edme Bopuchardon's sculpture, God of Love.
After his father's death, Louis XVI gave the Petite Trianon to his teenage wife, Marie Antoinette, saying, "This pleasure house is yours."
