Whatzit? 7
1/2" diameter x 4" high. If
you know what it is, right up front, you have our utmost
respect. If
you don't, don't feel bad. You've got a lot of
company! But
take a look below. Is
this, or is it not, one of the most sensuous ceramic
forms you've ever seen? Wonderful,
dark brown, very slightly iridescent glaze, with just a
touch of dark blue here and there. Found in Saline, MI.
Pewabic, perhaps? No way! See below. Lightly
crazed throughout.
It
fairly cries out to be fondled. And,
it doesn't disappoint, no matter from which angle you view
it, as you can see below. View

it or not,
it's
an insulator!
Specifically,
it's a link-strain insulator, once used to separate two
lines crossing at right angles. And
it's not Pewabic, or any other pottery you've heard
of. Unlikely
as it seems, it was produced by something called Ohio
Brass, in Mansfield, Ohio. Circa
1930's-1940's. An
interesting addition to an art pottery collection (it's form
may be more deserving of the term "art" than many of the
other pieces in our collections! ;-). Marked,
under glaze, with the just barely visible
B-in-a-circle mark of Ohio Brass. $
