Thick-walled and heavy (7 lb.) paperweight, ball vase of crystal clear glass internally decorated with strands of cobalt running horizontally and embracing eight large and brilliant jewel-like bubbles.

A wonderfully realized early execution by an important American artist.

Background: Kent F. Ipsen (b. 1933) is one of the early pioneers in the studio glass movement, earning his MFA from the University of Wisconsin in 1965. He was featured in Grover's seminal work, Contemporary Art Glass, 1975, and the 1979 landmark work, New Glass, A Worldwide Survey, by the Corning Museum of Glass.

He has also been a significant influence, as a teacher of glass at a number of workshops and schools, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University.
