vase, expressively decorated with browns and yellows over
cobalt hi-glaze. Small raised knobs surround the mouth. An
outstanding Kahler form and decor. $

Kahler Keramick was founded
as a stove maker in 1839 by Joachim Christian Herman Kahler,
producing stoves until 1888. Herman Augustus Kahler
inherited the business in 1872, someitme after which (around
1900) the factory began producing luster glazes and heavily
patterned ceramics for which the factory became known. He
supervised production until his death in 1917. Family run, Nils Kahler (b. 1906)
and brother, Herman J, Kahler jointly assumed artistic
direction. Two important designers were also
hired in the early 1900's Sven Hammershoi (early luster
glazes), and Jens Thirslund (later, 1920'sluster
