Frieze - circa 1970

Ruth Faktor (b. 1937)
6" x 13" (framed: 8-7/8" x 15-7/8")

$ 195. P-548-Z

This is a strongly carved bas-relief -- in its 'natural stone' coloring and in it's stark detail, reminiscent of the petroglyph carvings and drawings found in Europe and the American Southwest.

Faktor was born in Israel where she studied both sculpture and ceramics. Both painter and ceramist, she is, perhaps, best known for her colorful bas-reliefs of Israeli village themes, this piece being atypical and unusual.

Photo at left, taken with a flash, shows the depth of carving and the undulating surface of the plaque.
