condition, decorated and artist-sgned, dish -- by Stonelain,
the ceramic production of Associated American
Artists, New York. Circa1950. Signature
is found below left-most duck. Joseph
Hirsch (1910-1981). Hirsch was one of
a small group of important artists who
designed for Associated American Artists
in the forties and fifties. Impressed
Stonelain mark on back, with the
entwined-S's cypher of William Soini
and Frances Server, AAA master
potters. $

Background:
Associated
American Artists (New York, NY) produced pottery under the
Stonelain label from the early 1940's to circa 1952,
featuring work from some of the foremost artists of the day,
including, Thomas Hart Benton, Georges Schrieber, Gwen Lux,
Alexander Archipenko, Joseph Hirsh, Carl Walters, Jo
Davidson, etc., with master potters William Soini and
Frances Server handling the technical end of production. (It
is their intertwined "SS" initials found inside the
Stonelain logo.)
