Large
Controlled Bubble Vase
by
Thor Bueno
13"
high x 5" square
Truly
stunning! Meticulously controlled bubbles are set in a
swirled matrix of pink glass; then embraced by a thick
casing of crystal clear glass, creating a monolithic, gently
undulating surface. A bold, opalescent white lip wrap caps
this tour de force by master glass
artisan Thor Bueno (see Background, below)..

Background:
Thor
Bueno started blowing glass in 1979 while growing up in
Southern California. He studied with Italo Scanga;
received his BFA from UCSD (University of California - San
Diego), and his MFA from Alfred University. He attended the
Pilchuck Glass School in 1986 and returned frequently
as a scholarship student, teaching assistant, artist's
assistant, and staff member. A co-founding member of the
famed B Team (see below). He has taught at the
Glass Furnace in Istanbul and at Urban Glass. He
recently completed a residency at the Tacoma Museum of
Glass. His work is exhibited and collected
internationally.
The
B Team started as a group of young glass artisans
willing to travel rough and work glass at various
universities to expose students to other styles of glass
work than their instructors used. The B-Team soon became a
permanent operation that did glass 'happenings,' and went on
to become widely successful in the avant-garde world of art
after three major performances in New York, Japan, and
Philadelphia. The B-Team has won a Bessie Award from the New
York Dance Theater Workshop in 1996 for site specific
performance and a Tiffany Grant for their work in
glass.
