Union Station as seen from the Tacoma Art Museum.

Chihuly in Tacoma
at The Tacoma Art Museum

The Tacoma Art Museum is in a wonderful arts cluster, just a stone's throw from The Tacoma Museum of Glass and the Chihuly installation at historic Union Station.

Not glass, but a neat "Puppy," nonetheless, standing guard inside the lobby.

Modern and Ancient come together.
Chihuly glass balls installed on a 'frozen wave' of hand-carved, custom stones from former roads in the Fujian region of China.
A juxtaposition of both textures and times.

Strategically sited mirrors expand the installation in all directions.

The stones are set on a mortar bed supported by a foam foundation to hold its permanent shape as a frozen wave.

Installation on the right. Strategically sited mirror on the left.

Lobby display wall - the only part of the permanent collection where photos are allowed.
